LOCATION: BERKSHIRE
BRIEF:
· The brief was to create a fun, stylish home for entertaining family and friends, while also enjoying the quiet serenity of its Thames-side setting.
· The client’s strong creative vision for interior design was central to the project, with architecture supporting expansive river views rather than a traditional garden outlook.
· The renovation required close collaboration with structural engineers and the builder to overcome significant technical challenges.
· Key interventions included opening the river-facing elevation and reworking historic roof structures to allow contemporary living within a sensitive setting.
HIGHLIGHTS:
· Refurbishment of a Victorian boathouse, formerly owned by Jimmy Page where Led Zeppelin was formed, into a stylish contemporary riverside home.
· The restructured river-fronting gable wall, with steel frame, allowed for more glass without losing the original charm of the detailed timber fretwork.
· Complex removal of the concealed barrel-curved tin roof, releasing additional floor area and enabling a vaulted master bedroom.
· Full-width sliding glazed river elevation delivering panoramic views of the Thames despite the constraints of the existing timber frame.
· Frameless glass balcony further strengthening the connection between interior spaces and the riverside setting throughout the year.
· Lower riverside floor reconfigured following flood damage to include guest bedrooms, a home cinema reflecting the former film director owner, and a swimming pool with sauna.
· The project was a close collaboration with the client, whose strong sense of style and vision shaped the interior design, alongside our structural engineer and craftsman builder.
